In recent years, there has been a lack of attention to our local environment. In Holliston alone, there has been two separate ocassions in the last five years where there were traces of e coli bacteria and other dangerous chemicals in the water supply. Local aid was brought in to provide water to the people in need, and the local townspeople were without a safe water supply in their homes for more than two days.Along with having dangerous chemicals in the water supply, there has been a nationwide issue with general exposure to toxic chemicals. According to information that was found in research by environmentmassachusetts.org, approximately one third of the U.S. population suffers from chronic diseases such as cancers, asthma, and birth defects among others all due to exposure to toxic chemicals. There are now measures being taken to possibly stop this exposure by enacting a Safer Alternative Bill, which is still being discussed among key legislators.
I promise you that while I am representing you as your state representative, I will take the necessary and proper measures to make sure issues involving our environment like this don't happen again. Parents should not need to worry about the quality of water they give their children from the kitchen tap, nor should they be worrying if it is ok to even take a shower. Clean water is a basic need that every household should have no matter where you live.
